AUEB MBA International Alumni Association and Job-Pairs.gr

Posted in NEWS

We would like to announce that our alumni association is actively supporting Job-Pairs, a new dynamic voluntary initiative originating from the heart of our university. Job-Pairs, which recently received the silver medal of HR Excellence awards by the Greek Institute of HRM (ΕΙΜΑΔ), is aiming in providing career opportunities and mentorships to new graduates and facilitating their smooth entry in the job market. As our alumni network consists of both highly experienced professionals and new graduates, who could benefit in numerous ways by serving as either mentors or mentees, we strongly encourage our members to spare some time to support this initiative.

When and how was Job-Pairs created?
Job-Pairs was created at the end of 2013, aiming in helping out young Greek university graduates to successfully (re-)enter the job market. This social initiative was first ignited by two professors at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), Maria Vakola and Ioannis Nikolaou, along with a very dynamic group of individuals employed in a wide range of industries and sectors. This team has developed all the relevant material needed to support the Mentors in their efforts.

What is Job-Pairs?
Job-Pairs was designed to help young people to successfully (re-)enter the job market. How can that be accomplished? Through connecting those individuals (mentees) with professionals (mentors) working in the industry where the mentee wants to be employed. The Mentor possessing the necessary working experience agrees to participate in 4 meetings with the Mentee, in order to “transfer” their experience and offer guidance that will allow the mentee to successfully (re-)enter the job market.

What happens in practice?
A university graduate who actively seeks his/ her first job or who has lost his/ her employment, or who even wishes to make a career change (Mentee), as well as a professional who is interested in becoming a Mentor declare their interest to participate at www.job-pairs.gr. Subsequently, The job-Pairs team “creates” Mentee - Mentor pairs (matching process) and then they engage in a series of four meetings, during which the goal is to share and exchange experience, the Mentor to provide guidance to the Mentee as to how successfully (re-)enter the job market. The mentoring process is supported by material developed by the Job-Pairs team following the human resource management scientific principles.

It is important to point out that this is a VOLUNTEERING effort on behalf of all the parties involved (Mentees, Mentors, participating companies, as well as the Job-Pairs team) and absolutely FREE OF CHARGE for anyone wishing to take part in our inititive.

A Mentor can be:

  • any professional working in any industry, sector, range, specialty with at least 5 years of professional experience

A Mentee can be:

  • any university graduate in search of his/her first job, or unemployed, or wishing to make a career change

A Supporting Company can be:

  • any company that agrees to support the Job-Pairs initiative by providing the initiative with a certain number of Mentors. So far, the companies that have already supported and participated in the project include the following: Wind Hellas, Athenian Brewery S.A., Nestle, Xerox, Mondelez, Bosch, Unilever, Velti, Diageo, PwC, Royal Bank of Scotland, Leroy Merlin, TravelPlaner24, KPMG and Technipetrol.

Job-Pairs is supported from the Hellenic Institute of Human Resources Management (ΕΙΜΑΔ) and the Greek People Management Association (GPMA), and the communications and public relations firm Communication Effect S.A.

Scholarship opportunities for true innovators

Posted in NEWS

MBA International, in its quest to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, continues its successful collaboration with MSD, the global healthcare leader, and Industry Disruptors – Game Changers to offer up to 10 scholarships to applicants for the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” Major of the Full-time program for the academic year 2014-2015.

Scholarships will be awarded to candidates with innovative ideas resulting from academic research with business development potential or to entrepreneurs in the first stages of designing or developing a scalable start-up venture. Candidates must show that with their ideas, knowledge, talent and drive they have the potential to become industry disruptors and game changers with global reach. The scholarships cover all tuition and other I-MBA fees.

Attending the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” Major of the MBA International Full-time program, recipients of the scholarships will acquire the necessary technical, business and personality skills and knowledge that will help them turn their research output or innovative idea into a successful business venture. In the context of their Immersion Project, after completion of all the courses, they will also have the opportunity to work 100% of their time on their new venture.

Candidates should satisfy the admission requirements of MBA International, follow the formal procedure for admission to the program and also attach a one-page summary (about 500 words) of the potential business to be developed. This essay should summarize the idea and the intended business model under the following headlines:

1. Targeted Customers – Segments and Types of Customers.

2. Value Proposition – What is the product/service intended to be offered, why and how is it innovative, and what are the key needs it will address among the intended customers?

3. Key Resources – What are the competencies, knowledge, relationships and resources in the new venture that will enable it to succeed?

4. Revenue Streams – How will the venture potentially make money? Even if the idea is for a non-profit, it must break even to be a sustainable venture.

The application form along with the respective documents have to be sent to the MBA International Program’s secretariat (47A Evelpidon Str. & 33, Lefkados Str., GR 11362, Athens, Greece, room 805), by August 29th, 2014, with the label “Innovation – ID”.
